A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than it loves itself.
When trying to figure out what I wanted to write for this post, I googled “bucket list quotes” … and in between all of the very weird (and vulgar) ones, the one that caught my attention was “A goal without a plan is just a wish” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Have you ever had an item on your bucket list for so long that you thought it would never get checked off? Well, I finally got to check that item off of my list!
The moment I saw one of my friends (you’ll recognize her from her engagement session here) post on social media about welcoming a new litter of pups, I got really excited that I would be able check this off of my bucket list.
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing seven (yes, SEVEN) husky puppies. For anyone who knows me, this shoot was basically a dream come true. I absolutely LOVE dogs — I have two of my own. Getting to cuddle and photograph… seven husky puppies was the best thing ever.
Now, with that said, trying to get a photograph of all seven 4 week old puppies was a bit tricky… luckily there were 4 of us with very important jobs:
> Nicole (Me): Photographer
> Julie & Marco (Owners): Puppy Wranglers & Arrangers / Pee Cleaners
> Alex (My Husband): Puppy Cuddler / Assistant Arranger for Group Photo
These pups are SO sweet and SO cute. They were all pretty mellow during the shoot and most of them ended up asleep on my bed. I know what you’re thinking — “Nicole, why did you let 7 puppies in your bed? Didn’t they pee everywhere?” Ahh, yes, yes there was quite a bit of pee (less than I expected), but I was prepared. In case you are interested, here is a step-by-step guide on how to prepare your bed for puppy photos!
- Step 1: Take expensive bedding off of your bed (make sure you keep your mattress protector on).
- Step 2: Put down a clear (or white) plastic shower curtain (I used a very thick one).
- Step 3: Place an old white sheet on top of the shower curtain (pick one you don’t mind getting pee on).
- Step 4: If you’re “daring”, place nice pillows near your headboard (but be ready to act fast).
So, now that you have all of the knowledge you need to go photograph a group of husky puppies (haha, just kidding), here are some of my favourite photos from the session. Please note: Some of these puppies are still available for adoption! If you are interested, please contact Julie at Julie.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Left to Right: Stitch, GusGus, Lilo, Pua, Pongo, Mowgli, Baloo.
Lilo is the only female of this litter, and she is a total sweetheart. Another “bucket list” item for me was to “Swaddle a puppy like you would a newborn baby”. Lilo was my chance and…. TA-DA!
Aren’t they all just so stinkin’ cute? I had so much fun spending time with these sweethearts. Here are some more photos of them for you to “aww” over!
Someone spilled a bunch of puppies on my bed (insert heart-eyed emoji here).
Stitch may just be my favourite. That nose — SO cute!
Nap time for all the pups.
Julie & Marco are getting married in July!
I had the honour of doing their engagement photos, and I cannot wait to watch them tie-the-knot! It’s really too bad they didn’t pick May so the beautiful bride (and her bridesmaids) could have had puppy-bouquets haha! But seriously, how adorable would that be?
