Last night was exactly what I needed to make me feel creative again!
It was the perfect evening for an engagement session. And when I say perfect, I mean perfect. It was sunny and warm … and there were still some leaves on the trees. P.E.R.F.E.C.T.
When I was younger, I was obsessed with horses. I took some riding lessons and really enjoyed it. I even had this beautiful-to-me (but not flattering in the slightest) vest with horses on it that I insisted on wearing ALL THE TIME… even though my mom advised me (in the nicest way possible) that it was not the most flattering outfit choice.
So, even with her advice not to wear this vest, I decided to sneak it to school and wear it for Picture Day. (I know, you’re cringing…)
Let’s just say that those pictures turned out to be the most AWFUL and unflattering photos of me, ever. If I could redo one thing in my life as a child … wearing this vest for picture day would be it.
Last night I spent the evening with Daina and Trevor for their engagement session. They’re getting married in February and are one of my LAST weddings, ever!
I met Daina (and Trevor) when I moved into my new home 2 years ago. She was one of my neighbours and has turned into one of my dearest friends. Sadly (for me), her and her soon-to-be husband decided to move rural to get more land to eventually house their horse. I did scout their new 16-acre property and it’s looking pretty awesome for future photoshoots!
When Daina first booked me for her wedding, she told me that she wanted to do her engagement session at Turnout Stables in Kemptville so her horse, Lilly, could be included.
To say I was excited for this session was an understatement!
Daina has had her beautiful horse for 12 years now, and you can definitely tell they share a pretty special and unique bond. Lilly has such a quirky (and stubborn) personality which made the session so much fun. I’m not sure how many times Daina asked Lilly to work WITH her (instead of against) … haha!
Daina and Trevor totally rocked their first professional photoshoot as a couple. They were so natural in front of the camera.
Last night was amazing!
Here are some of my personal favourite photos from their session.
(And yes, I’ve already edited and sent their gallery! I stayed up waaaay too late last night because I was so excited over these images).
The only thing that could have made last night even better would have been if I were wearing that beautiful horse vest … hahahahaha!
I am no longer taking on weddings (other than friends/family) but that doesn’t mean I’m not taking engagement sessions! If you are interested in booking an engagement session, please send me a message!
